Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Detox and withdrawal treatment for alcohol can sometimes become very dangerous due to the intense detox symptoms of delirium tremens or “the DTs,” which can cause severe seizures and other complications. Alcohol use becomes even more complicated when combined with pill addiction or other drug use. In these cases, it is extremely important to have proper medical consultation and supervision when seeking treatment.

The COVID-19 epidemic lockdowns have resulted in dramatic increases in alcohol use, with women being affected even more than men. Read more

Recovery programs based on mutual peer support, and many different behavioral therapies, involve social support and are very helpful for people struggling with maintaining or regulating their alcohol consumption.

This type of recovery program is exactly what we offer at First Step Recovery Center. Along with our comprehensive and accredited intensive outpatient treatment program, and our traditional 12-Step fellowships, there are now many medication-assisted treatment options that First Step Recovery Center offers to its patients. Our Dual -Diagnosis treatment is unlike any other in the High Desert and Inland Empire area.  Learn more about it below.

Opiate Addiction Treatment

Heroin addiction is one of the fastest-growing drug problems in the United States today. However, many, if not most, current heroin users first started on their pathway to illegal drugs by the misuse of legal opioid prescription medications. Prescription opioid medications have been developed to relieve pain and suffering, but they are also highly addictive.

Today, there are many approved medications that can be used to detox, stabilize, and transform the lives of those enslaved by drug dependency and addiction, and the medical team at First Step Recovery Center are experts in guiding you to your best treatment options. First Step Recovery Center offers and understanding and comprehensive long-term approach to recovery from addictions to stimulant drugs like meth, crank and crystal to marijuana addictions as well.

Treatment of stimulant addictions is difficult and there are often a lot of relapses due to the nature of the drugs themselves and the underlying conditions in the addict, such as untreated ADHD, or anxiety and depression. There are often histories of horrible childhood traumas that have to be dealt with as well. This is why our Dual-Diagnosis treatment method that treats the whole person is unique and successful for stimulant addictions.

Our Unique Dual-Diagnosis Treatment Approach

At the heart of our dual approach, we design our programs to be as inclusive as possible – we know no individual or root addiction is the same. For those suffering from mental health disorders as well as addiction, our staff includes two addiction medicine physicians, an addiction psychiatrist, and a trauma-specialized licensed therapist. If a patient is identified to be in need of further mental health care, they will go on to receive additional levels of evaluation and treatment from these specialized providers. Some patients may be professionally diagnosed psychiatric medications to help stabilize their Recovery process. Clients with a dual diagnosis of a mental health and addiction disorder may further receive a personal consultation via secure video link with a highly qualified addiction psychiatrist.

We are here to treat your beloved as you wish them to be treated – with love, support, and positive encouragement from licensed, understanding professionals.

Learn More About Our Programs

Most clients are admitted to our foundational Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This nationally-leading evidence-based program combines 10 to 12 hours per week of group sessions, including weekly individual and family therapy sessions with their case manager.

We also offer Individualized Treatment Programs for those who are mildly affected and only need brief one-on-one treatment, or for others who seek long-term medical management and drug screening after they graduate our programs.

The mission of the IOP is to help the client find their way to complete lifestyle change, free from enslavement to drugs and alcohol while using the basic tools of a sober life. We instill in our clients the skills necessary to handle life’s challenges without the need to resort to escapism through drugs or alcohol. This approach guides our clients to “life after treatment” as a sober member of society who is supported by the welcoming community of others by participating in Anon groups.

Patients with more complex medical or psychiatric needs may be admitted to our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at a minimum of 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. The PHP program can include patients requiring monitored Ambulatory Detox, or those who need physician-supervised stabilization of a more severe medical or mental health problem. Many patients transferred to us from residential treatment programs or medical hospitals are admitted to this level of care until they are stabilized. Once the patient has been stabilized, they step down to our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) program. We uphold flexibility for clients who struggle maintaining sobriety or who run into a crisis so they can be stepped up from the IOP to the PHP level if necessary.

Toward the tail-end of the recovery process, we begin to prepare our clients for successful management of life after treatment. Clients who complete their initial Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) phase can be stepped down to the Outpatient Program (OP) level, where they continue to receive up to 9 hours per week of continued counseling and monitoring. Others may enter the Outpatient Program such as those who require ongoing physician management of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) or monthly injections of Sublocade or Vivitrol to help prevent relapse. For those with a mental health dual diagnosis, we can offer continuing care from a psychiatrist or therapist. The client may also choose to commit to a long-term monitoring and drug testing program for best results and self-accountability.

The damages of addiction take their toll hardest on the suffering families and loved ones, which we deeply focus on amending with the client’s active involvement. First Step Recovery recognizes the unique circumstances that can lead an individual toward addiction and emphasizes the importance of involving the family throughout the recovery process.  Genetic and familial root causes are also investigated for further understanding of the addiction to more precisely execute tailored treatment.

Outside of the client’s family recovery process, we seek to connect family members to Al Anon Family Groups, which feature panel discussions with successful members of these life-saving fellowships. Most often, it takes the family or significant other getting involved in Al Anon to help the client close the last door of denial in order to feel compelled enough to seek their own treatment.

Even if the addict cannot manage ultimately staying sober, it is our mission to support the family and present loving and constructive recovery strategies to support the client.

Families will always remain welcome at First Step Recovery Center, whether or not the alcoholic or addict chooses to fully participate. We understand the hardships and concerns families of an addict experience so we will always be here to help.

Continuing Care

Our personal goal we set for all clients is continuous and long-term improvement in all walks of life. After discharge, we stay engaged with the client and periodically monitor their Recovery. Our alumni are welcomed back for occasional “tune-ups” when facing challenges and struggles, and we work to engage clients with various 12-Step Recovery groups. Clients are also encouraged to continue personal or family therapy, or make use of our tele-psychiatry services for more distance-challenged situations.

Setbacks and Relapse

The chronic and lifelong nature of addiction means that personal setbacks and difficult challenges can sometimes trigger a post-treatment relapse. Therefore, we want all our clients to know we remain welcoming for them and they never have to be ashamed to call us for help after a relapse. We assess each situation individually and admit returning patients to the most appropriate level of care either at our center, or if needed, to a brief inpatient stabilization before returning to us.

Insurance and Payment Options

If all of these in-depth treatment options have your wallet worried, and if your insurance does not cover treatment with us, we will still assist you to find your best available treatment options. We run a benefits analysis with your insurance company to confirm your coverage and out of pocket costs, and we document your company’s authorization to cover your treatment. Patients using cash or other benefits will have all of their costs explained to them up front.
